RX-8 TURBO PACKAGES

It's very clear that as the successor to the FD3S Mazda RX-7, the RX-8 was always lacking the power that the chassis was more than capable of handling. The solution to that problem, lies here.

Grade X Turbo Package

With real world experience of the RX-8, having explored all reasonable means of naturally aspirated modifications and still not offering decent straight-line performance when compared to most modern performance cars, we decided to offer a true accessible solution. So we developed a turbo kit to suit the needs of the average consumer - with enough scope for potential later down the line to make the RX-8 truly competitive.

A low-mount design works in favour of two main criteria; turbo response, and convenience. We didn't want to offer a crude retrofit turbo kit that included smashing footwells for clearance, removing OMPs, relocating the battery, or anything that would inconvenience the usual workings of the RX-8. We wanted it to be as nonintrusive as possible, with the only changes being made to part of the plastic under tray to allow for boost pipes to make their way to the intercooler.

With this kit, full boost is delivered by 3500rpm, and carries on producing a steady 7psi all the way up to the rev limit. The surge in torque is a very welcome change from the standard Renesis engine characteristics as most owners would know, meaning that you no longer have the wring the neck out of the car to get into that narrow high-rpm powerband.

This package offers entry level boost for the SE3P RX-8 Chassis, for both 192 and 231 models, and includes all of the necessary parts and upgrades as a means to be able to produce up to 300hp on a stock engine. Parts include:

- Pulsar PSR 30-660 Turbo

- Turbo Manifold

- 3" Turbo Downpipe

- GFB 44mm External Wastegate (7psi Spring)

- 3" Air Filter

- Turbo & Intercooler Charge Pipes

- 3" Intercooler

- AN3 Turbo Oil Feed & Oil Restrictor

- AN10 Turbo Oil Drain

- AN10 Sump Fitting

- Aluminium MAF Tube with Air Straightener Built In

- Appropriate Footwell & Intake Area Heat Shielding

- Relevant Clamps, Fixings & Hardware

For those craving a little more from their RX-8, why not take a look at our Grade Y Turbo Package?

Grade Y Turbo Package

For when 300hp just simply isn't enough, we've got a few tricks up our sleeve...

This package builds on the base kit from the Grade X Turbo Package, providing the necessary upgrades to be able to turn up the boost to reasonable levels of performance.

The standard RX-8 fuel system does not provide enough fuel to surpass 300hp, and going beyond 300hp introduces even more heat that needs to be managed to keep your engine going safely. With this in mind, we've included the essentials - injector and fuel pump upgrades, as well as cooling upgrades, such as Water Methanol Injection. To top it off, you will now be able to choose between low and high boost, so you can keep it low key when the extra power isn't needed, or turn it up when losing is not an option.

The package includes:

- Greddy Profec OLED Boost Controller

- AEM Water Methanol Injection Kit

- x4 Injector Dynamics ID1050x Fuel Injectors**

- Sytec 340LPH Fuel Pump

Note: This package is additional to the Grade X Turbo Package. You MUST have the Grade X Turbo Package installed, or purchased in conjunction with this package.

*380hp is the figure stated for 6-port (231PS) engines. 4-Port (192PS) engines can expect to see numbers of 350hp at the same level of boost.

**4-Port (192PS) engines only require x2 ID1050x Fuel Injectors.

And for those who dare to... take a look at the Grade Z Turbo Package. It should be more than plenty for you.

Z

Grade Z Turbo Package

For those who dare, THIS package is a complete overhaul for the Renesis engine, as a belt and braces means to turn up the boost significantly for 500HP without launching an Apex Seal into orbit!

So, you either have an abundance of money and love the RX-8 far too much, OR you've completely lost the plot and fancy yourself an extra dose of problems. No worries! We can accommodate that, with the Grade Z Turbo Package.

So it's a known thing - the Renesis engine isn't particularly forgiving when it comes to making a decent chunk of power. However, that doesn't mean it's impossible...

This package starts at the core; the 13B-MSP engine. Mazda left quite a lot of a room for refinement when they developed this engine at the factory. It's a great platform, there's no mistake, but when it comes to making power in excess of 500hp, there's much to do. Machining of the rotors to accommodate 13B-REW 2mm Apex Seals, including side clearancing, rotor face clearancing, and precision balancing to allow the engine to spin as freely as possible under the high stresses of additional boost is primarily the key. The engine needs studding too - oversized 12.7mm (1/2") studs, as a preventative measure against separation (which introduces water seal failure). More importantly, we've discovered that the weakness of the Renesis on a physical level, is the casting around the top dowel on the Front Iron. Around 400hp, it can crack due to shock and torsional stresses from the extra power, therefore necessitating block machining to accept the oversized studs. This prevents the block from twisting.

All new seals, different tolerances and clearances suited to abuse, and generally a whole refresh of the engine will ensure that it does not fail prematurely. And for that extra potential, your choice of a Street Port or Bridge Port while we're in there. (And we strongly advise the Street Port!) Cooling as always, has to be managed accordingly as well. A much larger intercooler helps manage the high intake temperatures that rotary engines do not take kindly to. The Oil Cooling system has to be changed for extra cooling capacity, and proper temperature regulating. A well designed Billet Water Pump significantly reduces cavitation and flows more volume of coolant, coupled with a chunky alloy radiator if you don't have one already! The proper heat management on the exhaust components will be implemented to vastly reduce the engine bay temperatures. Furthermore the fuel system is adapted to a 'return style' system, to ensure consistent fuel pressure under higher boost. Lastly, a Haltech Nexus ECU will tie everything together. The stock ECU works well, but when it comes to these power levels, having a modern ECU offers far more flexibility for programmable safety strategies and tuning, to steer the engine as far away as possible from the danger zone. All of these upgrades will strongly increase the longevity of the Renesis, allowing you to take advantage of power in excess of 500hp.

So... Are you ready for madness?

*500hp is the figure stated for 6-port (231PS) engines. 4-Port (192PS) engines due to the nature of this particular engine build CAN achieve similar numbers with bigger secondary injectors (Injector Dynamics ID2000x), but will not be as high.
